When it comes to using water more efficiently, innovation really is the key – and FreshBins Pty Ltd has certainly highlighted this. The Australian company binned the competition by taking out the Product Innovation category of the 2010 savewater! awards® with their mobile wheelie bin cleaning system.
FreshBins identified that traditional wheelie bin cleaning resulted in significant water wastage and contamination. As a consequence, they designed and developed a world-first system, which combines 3D robotic technology with a chemical-free cleaning and sanitising process to reduce the amount of water needed to clean the bins. Using specifically-equipped trucks, the ultra high efficiency ozone system requires less than a cup of recycled water per bin, as compared to up to 100 litres when cleaned with a hose. The ozone system provides further water savings by allowing continuous recycling of onboard water for up to three months. This removes the need for daily disposal of up to 5000 litres of chemically contaminated water, typical of traditional systems.
