Celebrating 10 Years of Excellence

savewater! awardsNational Water Week 2012 is set to reach its peak tonight in Melbourne with the Australian Water Industry gathering for the national 2012 savewater! awards®. This evening’s celebration of sustainable water use marks the tenth year since the awards program first began back in 2002. What a long way they have come!

Back then, awards entries were only open to Victorians, while tonight the winners will be judged from over 1,000 entrants across Australia – and in three categories, from around the world! In just 10 years we have seen the celebration of sustainable water use grow phenomenally and continue through both dry and wet years (even though it has an uncanny record for raining just about every awards gala night).

This year’s finalists
Headed by Head Judge, Mr Rob Gell, professionals from around the world sifted through each of the submissions to select 43 finalists across eight categories – you can see them all in our 2012 finalists blog post.

For the second consecutive year, the savewater! awards® will also host the Prime Minister’s Water Wise Award, with three finalists in the running and one highly commended:

  • Cameron’s Nursery – Arcadia NSW
  • Everson’s Food Processors – Frederickton NSW
  • Sakata Rice Snacks Australia Pty Ltd – Laverton VIC
  • Serco Australia (highly commended) – Wooroloo WA

Jessica Ricci at the 2011 savewater! awards®In recent years, the awards have expanded to include what is now an international photography competition that gives everyone an opportunity to be involved in sharing the message of valuing water. Last year, Jessica Ricci from Werribee Secondary took out the Senior Student Photographic Award, and is a finalist again in this year’s awards. We wish her and all of the other finalists all the very best tonight; regardless of the outcome, they have all achieved major accomplishments in sustainability already. Well done!

We’re very excited that the event will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), an award winning venue itself. MCEC was the first ‘6 Star Green Star’ environmentally rated convention centre in the world and tonight not only hosts the savewater! awards® but also the Banksia Environmental Awards.

While the savewater! awards are a ticketed event, we welcome you to follow the Gala Ceremony from the comfort of your home by joining in our live twittercast by following savewater!® on twitter or the topic #swawards from 7pm tonight.
