City of Ballarat strikes gold!

Marty BuschYou might be thinking the gold rush finished long ago, but for Local Government Authority, the City of Ballarat, the dash to secure the treasure is not over.  The City of Ballarat are now even richer than before through saving a significant amount of water, which saw them win gold at the 2010 savewater! awards® in the Government category.

The FreshBins teamWhen it comes to using water more efficiently, innovation really is the key – and FreshBins Pty Ltd has certainly highlighted this.  The Australian company binned the competition by taking out the Product Innovation category of the 2010 savewater! awards® with their mobile wheelie bin cleaning system.

Kids in the wetlandsTeaching the importance of conserving our most precious resource is crucial to ensuring mankind exists in the future, and Bentleigh West Primary School has really blown us out of the water! In fact, the school’s efforts impressed the savewater! awards® judges so much last year that it won the grand prize in the Educational Institutions category. What was the grand prize you might ask? A prestigious savewater! award® and $1000 cash!

Water is an essential element in many business operations, but through some clever thinking and ingenuity there is always a means to becoming more water efficient. Edstein Creative Stone is an example of one such business that is just a stone’s throw away from making their company completely water self-sufficient! The initiatives that this stone manufacturing business has implemented saw them win the 2010 savewater! award® for small business.

They’re saving water – Scouts’ Honour

Caring for the environment is one of the Scout Laws, and Scouts Australia were rewarded for upholding this law last year by winning the savewater! award® for Community Groups. How? By implementing a program that saves around 100 megalitres of drinking water each year!

A real water saver leads by example

It’s not hard to simply tell people to save water, but if you are not contributing to water conservation yourself, can you really expect others to listen to you? If you want to encourage people to save water, lead by example! Bill Thomas is one such person, and as a result was awarded the 2010 Australian Achiever savewater! award® for showing outstanding initiative and leadership in water conservation and efficiency.
